Dental Implants

There are two main parts of a natural tooth, the root and the crown. The crown is what is visible in the mouth. The crown is used for chewing and it helps maintain the shape of the face. The root is what attaches the crown to the jaw and holds it in place. A dental implant is a modern and reliable way to replace a crown and root when they are damaged or lost.

Teeth implants replace a patient’s missing natural teeth.

Whether you work or live in Chicago, dental implants are right around the corner at our Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL 60659 office. Patients will be able to confidently smile and even chew in areas where teeth had been previously missing. A dental implant consists of 3 parts: the ImplantAbutment, and Crown. The implant itself is a small titanium post that is placed into bone in area(s) of missing teeth. Once the teeth implant is placed in the bone it needs to heal. During healing, bone surrounds and attaches to the titanium post recreating a stable structure where a crown will be attached.

The abutment is the transition between the implant and the crown. Most abutments are screwed into the implant and provide a surface for the final crown to be cemented on to. Finally, the crown (cap) is the tooth portion of the implant system that will be visible in the mouth.

Once healing is complete, the next step is to place the “abutment” and scan it using our CEREC system. Instead of waiting an additional 2 weeks for a dental lab to fabricate the crown, it is created in house in less than an hour and a half, and then is ready to be cemented.  Once cemented the dental implant can be treated like a natural tooth. Daily brushing can begin at this point and regular treatment (dental cleanings & evaluations) can be scheduled as needed. It is imperative that dental implants are maintained with regular dental checkups.

Dental implants can be placed in a single space or can be used to support bridges and even stabilize poorly fitting dentures known as an “Overdenture”.
